Would A Toyota Dealer Compensate Me For Lost Money Due To Not Being Able To Use My Truck ?

I had a head gasket replaced due to overheating this past week at a .
The head gasket was on recall and they replaced it for free.
They also put on the engine new spark plugs and a new thermostat and a new gasket on the exhaust manifold as well.
I have driven it home now and there is an obvious electrical surge /shortage somewhere because it jolted down the road just now and stopped and when I opened the hood there was smoke coming from the cable going to the negative terminal.
They maybe didnt ground the wire back when they put everything back together????
I am a landscaper and needed to mow my customers lawns today and will be losing by not to use my .
What will do about it????
Thanks for your answers!

    i have a yahoo question….
how many times can this guy ask a question that puts him getting something else for free? come on man….your truck is out of warranty. the dealership performed the recall. end of story. if they made a mistake give them time to fix it. if they didnt i am sure they will be more than happy to give you an estimate to repair your truck.
the correct answer to your question is this…
toyota will verify that the recall was performed correctly. period.

Take it back to the dealer service department. They will look at it. If it is something that they did or didn’t do then they will replace it for free and fix it for free.

Contact the dealership that did the work and tell them what happened. Suggest to them they let you use a loaner or something to keep your business going.

They may be able to give you a loaner while they fix the new problems they seem to have created. Explain the situation with a manager, if he says no go above him. Make a scene if you have to. BUT do it fast. The longer you wait, the more likely they will say you did it.

    Strongly doubt it.

You’ll need to test the electrical circuits to find the short, if there is one. Then you’ll have to prove that the repairmen caused the short. If you told them they couldn’t test-drive it because you needed it right away, that won’t help.
Even so, chances are they will refuse to compensate you for lost income. Even if they were sued and found liable, they would only be responsible for your lost profit, not the total cost of the job. Is it enough to be worth suing?

actually I work at a toyota dealership and for whatever reason they do warranty stuff on old vehicles. Theres a warranty engine replacement on some sludged engines which I think is ridiculous. Anyway no they wont reimburse you but they should offer a rental. The dealership I work for has I think 7 loaners free of charge if the vehicle has to stay at the shop several days check into it. Also I think they pinched a wire when putting the manifold back on.

A 93 Toyota…seriously? They’re not going to remiburse for money lost due to not being able to use your truck. That’s life. If it’s a 93, I’m flabbergasted that they even replaced the head gasket for free. Usually cars over 5 yr are not eligible for recalls.

  9. grneydme says:

i don’t think they will compensate you, but if it’s their fault they could find you a rental and they will pay for that.. it’s crazy that they fixed more than just the recall.. they are losing money.. warranty usually runs out on cars after 5 years.. i would hate to do your warranty claim and try to get that paid..

usually warranty covers only repairs, not lost use…see if they can loan you something while they finish repairs…

    no.

They will not compensate you for anything, they will keep on fixing it, so they can make warranty money, but they really do not concern themselves with your circumstances.

    In your dreams!
They might repair the truck but as for your loss of earnings, forget it.
I had a similar thing happen with my RAV-4. It cost a fortune and I was without my vehicle for 3 days. Not a penny received in compensation for loss of earnings. I even wrote to The Managing Director at Toyota, in Japan which was a complete waste of time.
Due to all the hassle with the Toyota dealership I use, I now drive a Nissan X-Trail and love it, brilliant dealers too.
I had various Toyotas over 25 years. What a pity they place no value on long term, loyal customers.

They will not compensate you for lost earnings, that’s not part of any vehicle or repair warranty.
What you should look into is “Loss of use” or “Business interruption” insurance either through vehicle insurance or business insurance brokers.
